HYPNOTHERAPY AS A TREATMENT FOR PAIN IN PATIENTS WITH BURNS

Abstract


Introduction. Burning is an event with many psychosomatic complications. Pain is one of the most trouble matter in these patients that affect on their psychologic features. This study presents a hypnotherapeutics intervention for controlling pain in patients suffered from burning.
Methods. In a randomized clinical trial (without placebo), two 22 members group burned patients were selected. In interventional group we conduct a 5 sessions hypnotherapy course. Severity of pain and itching were assessed by visual analogue scale before and after intervention and results were compaired between two groups.
Results. All pain parameters were decreased more in interventional group (P < 0.05).
Discussion. It seems that hypnotherapy can playa positive role in pain reduction of patients. It is recommended that it would be applied in adjunct to current medications in these patients.
